Brown and Grizzly bears are classified as the same species even though there are notable differences between them. Kodiak Brown Bears are classified as a distinct subspecies from those on the mainland because they have been isolated from the other bears since the last ice age. Kodiak bears have almost an unlimited amount of Salmon to feed on. This not only makes these bears huge but gives Kodiak one of the highest concentration of Brown Bears in the World.
